If you have a home theater system with you when you bought the TV and I wonder if it's worth the effort to get everything, the answer is yes. It will use 10 times the sound quality that you, the speakers that are built into your TV and it is not difficult, it would have to deal with most of the newer televisions.
The most difficult part of the process will try to hide the speaker cables. I'm serious. Sometimes this can be a real nuisance when trying to obtainyour speakers situated behind your couch.
You are most likely thinking about how you are going to run all of the cables to the back of your home theater receiver in order to get sound for all of your different devices, cd player, dvd player, tv and so on. This can all be avoided and make life a lot easier if you check the back or your TV for an audio out. If you have any audio out all you will need to do is take your red and white RCA cables and plug them from your audio out on your TV to the input on your new receiver.
If you have done this correctly you should not have to touch any of your current setup. All of your other devices that you already have running to your TV do not need to be touched because all sound no matter what will be sent into your TV then back out using the audio out. This saves you from having to change any of your existing setup.
Now go into your TV setup menu and to the audio menu and make sure you TV is set to external so that your receiver is receiving the sound signal from your TV. Once that is done you should be listening to sound through your new surround sound system and it should not have taken longer than 5 minutes.
